Building a Vision for Quantum in Scotland

Alter UK is looking foward to attending the Insititute of Physics event "Building a Vision for Quantum in Scotland" at the University of Glasgow on February 21st. The meeting will discuss how to accelerate the growth of the quantum sector in Scotland and will include speakers and attendees from business, academia, and policy.

Quantum technology in the UK is experiencing rapid change and growth, and Alter is honored to have been invited to participate in helping to shape that progress.

The Insititute of Physis would like to invite you to join us for an in person event on how to accelerate growth of the quantum sector in Scotland on Tuesday 21 February from 16:00 - 20:00. The IOP is shaping the debate on matters of importance to the physics community and to Scotland.

Join the IOP’s Chief Executive, Tom Grinyer, and hear about IOP’s recent community consultation and our new report A Vision for Quantum Technologies in the UK | Institute of Physics (iop.org). Carol Monaghan MP will share her insights as our special guest. Then take part in a community debate on how to accelerate growth of quantum sector in Scotland.

Panellists:

  • Kirsty Annand, PIADS and Opening up Photonics
  • Chris Dorman FInstP, CEO Coherent
  • Robert Lamb, Leonardo
  • Miles Padgett FInstP, Principal Investigator of QuantIC [quantum imaging and sensing]
  • Sheila Rowan Hon.FInstP, IOP President

We expect around 60 attendees from academia, business and policy to attend and panellists from the quantum sector will help to shape the debate.

IOP’s report calls for the following action:

  1.  Set an ambition for government to fund and lead the development of long-term quantum roadmaps;
  2. Incentivise and support start-ups and the research base to spin out more quantum businesses;
  3. Establish a network of accelerators linked with venture capitalists and larger businesses; and
  4. Establish a research and innovation organisation(s) to deliver the build of quantum technology device demonstrators and commercialisation partnerships

We would very much value your participation in this important event and look forward to hearing from you as soon as possible.
