Leadership Change in the Digital & Semiconductor Business Unit

Stephen Duffy will assume the role of CEO

With effect from 1 May 2026, Stephen Duffy assumed the role of CEO of the Digital & Semiconductor Business Unit (BU D&S) of TÜV NORD GROUP. He succeeds Luis Gómez, who has played a key role in bringing together and strategically shaping the Business Unit since its launch as part of the NOVA initiative.

Luis Gómez led ALTER for more than 20 years, decisively shaping the development of the brand from a specialised provider for the aerospace sector into a globally recognised technology and testing service provider for electronic components. Dr Dirk Stenkamp, Chairman of the Executive Board of TÜV NORD AG, paid tribute to this achievement:

“Over more than two decades, Luis Gómez has led ALTER – and later the Digital & Semiconductor Business Unit – with outstanding strategic foresight, an international perspective and a high level of technological expertise. He succeeded in integrating organisations, cultures and competencies, creating a strong and future‑ready unit. For this exceptional commitment, I would like to thank him very sincerely – also on behalf of the entire Executive Board.”

Luis Gómez will retire later this year but will continue to assume operational responsibilities beforehand, including further expanding ALTER’s global presence.

Stephen Duffy takes on responsibility for BU D&S as a leader with deep technological expertise and extensive international market experience. Dr Stenkamp continues:

“With Stephen Duffy, we are deliberately building on continuity in excellence while also introducing fresh impetus at a time when digital technologies, semiconductors, AI, as well as cyber and quantum security are increasingly converging.”

Stephen Duffy is familiar with TÜV NORD GROUP from first‑hand experience, while also bringing a fresh perspective from global technology and growth markets. From 2017 to 2024, he served as Managing Director of ALTER TECHNOLOGY TÜV NORD UK and was instrumental in building today’s ALTER Group. Most recently, Duffy worked globally as Senior Director at the US‑based company Coherent Corporation, a listed market leader in laser systems and optoelectronic components for digital data transmission.

Together with the teams of ALTER, ALTER | HTV and TÜVIT, he will drive the strategic development of the Business Unit across markets such as aerospace, defence, IT, industry and high‑reliability applications.
