ALTER joins the Zero Debris Initiative

We are proud to share that ALTER is now an official supporter of the Zero Debris Initiative, a community-driven effort to safeguard the long-term safety and sustainability of space activities.
The orbital environment is a limited natural resource, increasingly strained by the growing population of spacecraft and debris. The initiative sets out ambitious, jointly agreed targets for 2030 to minimise the release of debris, guarantee timely and successful clearance, improve space traffic coordination, and better understand the environmental impacts of re-entry.
By joining this effort, ALTER reinforces its commitment to responsible space operations, contributing to:
🔹 Preventing the release of debris, both intentional and unintentional, through improved materials characterisation, shielding technologies, and particle-free propulsive solutions.
🔹 Enabling timely, reliable orbital clearance, supported by robust de-orbiting systems, health-monitoring methods, and verification technologies.
🔹 Advancing space traffic surveillance and coordination, essential to reduce collision risks and support a safer orbital environment.
🔹 Reducing risks on ground and protecting the atmosphere, through design-for-demise solutions and improved re-entry modelling.
The Zero Debris Initiative is more than a pledge—it's a collective roadmap to ensure outer space remains accessible, safe, and sustainable for future generations. At ALTER, we are committed to contributing our expertise in high-reliability testing and qualification to support this mission.
Together, we are working towards a future where space activities generate zero debris by 2030.
