CanSat 2025

CanSat Is an educational competition organized by ESERO Spain as part of the European Space Agency's (ESA) CanSat program. Targeted at secondary school students, the initiative encourages hands-on learning in science and technology by applying knowledge in mathematics, physics, and programming within an interdisciplinary context.

Throughout the challenge, teams design, build, and launch a miniature satellite in the shape of a soft drink can, integrating telecommunications, power, and sensor systems. The mission involves carrying out a scientific experiment, collecting data, and analysing it during the satellite’s descent.

Our ALTER facilities in Spain provided technical support to the IES Santo Domingo school in El Puerto de Santa María, Cádiz, by performing a series of rigorous tests on their design — including vibration analysis, load assessments, and climatic cycle simulations. These evaluations ensured that the high school team's project met the program's demanding standards, allowing them to participate with full confidence in the structural and functional integrity of their satellite.

The event takes place throughout the academic year and is divided into several phases. At the final “Space Engineer for a Day” event, one team from each ESA member state takes part. The winning team of CanSat Spain 2025 will represent Spain in this event.
